The Chicago Bears announced a series of roster moves on Tuesday, tweaking their 90-man offseason roster to create a 91st spot. The team made several transactions to adjust the roster ahead of upcoming practices and training camp preparations.
Among the moves, the Bears added a pair of players while releasing others to maintain flexibility. The team signed defensive back Quindell Johnson and offensive lineman Jerome Carvin, both of whom bring experience from previous NFL stints. Johnson spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams, while Carvin has seen action with the Tennessee Titans.
To make room, the Bears waived wide receiver John Jackson III and defensive tackle Byron Cowart. Jackson had joined the Bears earlier this offseason after going undrafted. Cowart, a veteran defensive lineman, had been with the team since last season.
The extra roster spot comes from a recent NFL rule change that allows teams to carry 91 players during the offseason instead of the usual 90. This gives clubs more room to evaluate talent before final cuts ahead of the regular season.
The Bears continue to build their roster under new general manager Ryan Poles and head coach Matt Eberflus. With training camp approaching, these moves signal the team's focus on adding depth and competition at key positions. Fans can expect more transactions as the Bears fine-tune their squad for the upcoming season.
