The next ten days bring a full slate of outdoor activities, youth leagues, and high school competitions across the region. Here is what is on the calendar from August 21 through August 30.

The city parks department will host its final summer twilight 5K run on Friday, August 21, at Riverside Trailhead. Registration opens at 6:30 p.m. with a 7:15 p.m. start. The course is flat and open to all ages, with stroller-friendly paths. Entry is five dollars, and proceeds go toward trail maintenance.

For tennis players, the annual mixed doubles round-robin tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and 23, at the Northside courts. Play begins at 9 a.m. both days. The event is limited to 32 teams, and same-day signups are accepted if spots remain. Bring your own partner.

On the prep side, football season kicks off with a full slate of non-conference games on Friday, August 21. The defending league champion Tigers host the visiting Eagles at 7 p.m. across town, the Bulldogs travel to face the Warriors, and the Cougars open at home against the Spartans. All games are varsity only, with gates opening one hour before kickoff.

Girls volleyball starts league play on Tuesday, August 25, with four home matches scheduled. The JV squads take the court at 5:30 p.m., followed by varsity at 6:45 p.m. Spectators are asked to bring their own seating for outdoor courts at two of the schools.

Saturday, August 29, features the annual community swim meet at the municipal pool, with heats beginning at 10 a.m. for ages 8 and under, followed by older divisions. The pool will close for regular lap swimming at 9 a.m. that day.

Finally, the youth soccer registration deadline is August 30 for the fall season. Forms are available at the community center front desk or online through the parks page. Late entries will not be accepted after that date.
