The Cleveland Browns were hoping to run it back with Jadeveon Clowney, but the veteran defensive end had a different destination in mind. Instead of re-signing with Cleveland, Clowney has agreed to a deal with the Houston Texans, the team that originally drafted him first overall back in 2014.

Cleveland had shown real interest in keeping Clowney after a solid 2021 season where he recorded nine sacks and provided a steady presence opposite Myles Garrett. The Browns liked his run defense and his ability to pressure quarterbacks without needing constant double teams. But they wanted that veteran presence, and now they will have to look elsewhere or rely on younger players to step up. Clowney's decision leaves a small gap, but it is one the team can manage.
