Eagles Training Camp Practice Notes: Jalen Hurts strikes back

The Eagles returned to the practice fields on Wednesday with a sharper edge, and the offense clearly got the memo. After a sluggish session earlier in the week, Jalen Hurts looked locked in during team drills, delivering a couple of deep balls that silenced the doubters for at least one afternoon. The most impressive throw came on a corner route to DeVonta Smith, who ran past the safety and caught the ball in stride over his outside shoulder. Hurts also connected with A.J. Brown on a back-shoulder fade in the red zone, a timing throw that had been missing in previous days.

The offensive line held up well in pass protection during the live periods, giving Hurts a clean pocket to step into. That was a welcome sight, especially with the defensive front bringing extra pressure on third downs. On the other side, the secondary had a mixed day. Darius Slay broke up a slant intended for Brown, but the younger corners got beaten on double moves more than the coaches would like. Rookie Quinyon Mitchell bounced back after a rough start, showing good recovery speed on an underneath route.

Special teams got a heavy workload, with Jake Elliott going perfect on field goals from inside 45 yards. The punting game remains a competition, with both Braden Mann and Ty Zentner getting consistent hang time. No major injuries were reported, though one linebacker left early with a hamstring tweak. The energy was noticeably better than Tuesday, and the offense walked off the field with a clear sense of purpose heading into the weekend.
