The Indianapolis Colts wrapped up their twelfth training camp practice on Thursday, and the focus remained on sharpening the details ahead of the preseason opener. With the heat index climbing, the team moved through a brisk, competitive session that featured several standout moments on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Anthony Richardson continued to show improved timing with his receivers, particularly on deep outs and seam routes. He connected with Michael Pittman Jr. on a pair of crisp throws during seven-on-seven drills, and later threaded a tight window to Alec Pierce in the red zone. The offense also worked heavily on third-down situations, with Gardner Minshew taking second-team reps and showing good command in the short passing game.
Defensively, the secondary had a strong day. Kenny Moore II broke up a quick slant, and rookie corner Jaylon Jones got his hands on a ball intended for Josh Downs. The pass rush was active as well, with Dayo Odeyingbo and Kwity Paye both recording would-be sacks in team periods.
Special teams got a solid block of work, including punt coverage and return drills. Isaiah McKenzie looked quick fielding punts, while the kickoff unit focused on lane integrity.
Head coach Shane Steichen kept the tempo high but also gave several starters a breather late in practice. The team will hold a lighter walkthrough on Friday before taking the field for a full scrimmage on Saturday. No major injuries were reported, though a couple of players were seen getting extra stretching on the sideline.
The Colts are now less than two weeks away from their first preseason game, and the coaching staff is clearly using each rep to evaluate roster depth. The competition at backup offensive line and at linebacker remains tight, and Thursday's session did little to separate the pack. Fans in attendance got a good look at the team's energy and physicality, and the overall vibe was one of steady progress.
