Sports/Rec calendar: Aug. 7–16, 2026

The next week and a half brings a full slate of activities for athletes, outdoor enthusiasts, and fans across the region. From youth camps to college scrimmages, there is something for every level of interest.

On the prep side, several high school football teams will hold their annual fall jamborees on Friday, Aug. 7. The scrimmages are set for 6 p.m. at three different sites, with teams rotating through timed series. Coaches say the focus will be on basic execution and getting players acclimated to game speed before the regular season opener on Aug. 21.

For college fans, the local university soccer program will host an alumni match Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. The current roster will split into two squads and play a 60-minute exhibition against former players. It is a chance to see the new freshman class in action before the season kicks off the following weekend.

Recreation departments are also offering a series of outdoor programs. A guided kayak tour along the river is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, starting at the north boat launch. Participants must bring their own life jackets and are encouraged to register in advance due to limited spots. On Sunday, a family bike ride will cover a five-mile loop on the paved trail, with a rest stop halfway.

Later in the week, a youth tennis clinic will run from Tuesday through Thursday at the community courts. The clinic is open to ages 8 to 14 and will cover basic strokes, footwork, and match etiquette. Rackets are available for those who need them.

Finally, the city's adult softball league will hold its playoff semifinals on Wednesday night at the sports complex. Four teams remain in the hunt for the championship, with the winners advancing to the title game on Friday. Spectators are welcome, and the concession stand will be open.

All events are weather permitting. For registration details or schedule changes, contact the parks and recreation office during regular business hours.
